Bruce Foxton, was one of the founding members of The Jam, along with Paul Weller. The Jam performed from 1977 until their breakup in 1982 and had eighteen consecutive 'Top 40' singles in the UK. Including classic favourites such as 'That's Entertainment', 'Going Underground', 'A Town Called Malice' and 'Eton Rifles'. After The Jam, Bruce persued a solo career until joining the group 'Stiff Little Fingers'. Russell Hastings, ironically, spent several years performing in a Jam tribute band. He shocked audiences worldwide with his powerful and passionate interpretation of the Jam's songs so it seems only fitting that he is now the lead vocalist for 'From the Jam'. We had a great time with these gentlemen and their families, who cruised with us twice while enjoying a quick Caribbean break before the start of their upcoming UK tour.
We were very excited to be able to host a cruise for Bruce Foxton and Russell Hastings, who are two of the three members of the group 'From the Jam'. The only one missing was Mark Brzezicki who is a former member of Procol Harum, (think 'A Whiter Shade of Pale'), Ultravox ('Vienna', who hasn't swayed to that?) and The Cult, ('She sells Sanctuary', which spent twenty-three weeks in the UK Top 100 back in 1985).

We had a very special guest on board this week and we felt extremely honoured to to be able to take baby Kai, aged eleven weeks on his first ever sailing trip. He is certainly the youngest guest that we have ever carried and he was impeccably behaved. Greg, was clearly quite taken with him and the feeling was mutual as Kai took it as a cue for a well deserved nap. There are a lot of very accomplished young sailors, especially the truly impressive Laura Dekker of the Netherlands, who is the youngest person to circumnavigate the globe single handed. Laura was 16 years and 123 days old when she docked at the St. Maarten Yacht Club, having covered more than 27,000 nautical miles. Laura is not alone, there are actually several teens who have sailed the world solo but neither The Guinness Book of Records, nor The World Sailing Speed Record Council, (which is the governing body of round the world sailing), recognise the category of youngest, or oldest. We, however, are not bound by such constraints and Kai certainly holds our 'Youngest Sailor' award. When you work on the ocean, there is never a dull day. Today's excitement was when Jason, our superhero, made a spectacular rescue of a visitor to the island, who had capsized his Hobie Cat. We only just saw him out of the corner of our eye, so had to make a quick tack back to reach him. Jason, quite literally, dived into action and had the situation rectified in a matter of minutes. Sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words and thanks to Kelly, one of our guests, for being so quick with her camera, you can see the whole incident as it happened. Intrepid action and reporting from 'Second Chance' today! |
